5" Square CowPots

  • CowPots are a biodegradable planting pot made from composted cow manure. Your plants will love these pots!

CowPots were created by a group of dairy-farming brothers in Connecticut. Since 1997, they are one of only a few farms across the United States to have continuously run a methane digester. This is a process in which the raw manure from the cows is heated and stored in a large tank. The methane gas is collected and burned. At the end of this process, the solids are separated from the liquid. The liquid goes back to the field to grow next year's crops which feed the cows. The solids continue composting.

The CowPot manufacturing process removes all weeds, pathogens, and odor. All that's left is the natural fiber and goodness of manure: the perfectly plantable pot! Farmers and gardeners have always considered cow manure a wholesome organic soil amendment for their gardens.

This product helps farmers reduce the nutrient load on their farms which directly contributes to a better and cleaner environment. They have been proven to grow bigger, better plants for the consumers who have no plastic to discard and overload our landfills. The ideal product for farmers and growers.

CowPots have been tested and recommended by The National Home Gardening Club with a 96% approval rating! They've also won the Mail Order Gardening Association's Green Thumb Award and Joe Lamp'l's (of DIY's Fresh from the Garden and PBS's GardenSMART) Best of the Must-Haves for 2008!

I hate transplanting! I'm in the middle of buying more raised beds and getting my greenhouse up. In the meantime, depending on how close together the final plants need to be, I plant my seeds in 3" or 5" CowPots. They are so convenient and easy to work with. Then I can final plant them at my convenience not because they are growing out of their cells.

These are the best!

What a great invention! I've been using CowPots to start about 100 vegetables and flowers every spring for the past 3 years. Prior to that, I used plastic pots- they are terrible! Why? 1-They are made from oil or gas which we need to leave in the ground. 2-After 2 or 3 years they start cracking up and have to be thrown away. 3- Even after scrubbing with hot soapy water, they transmit algae, fungus, etc. from the prior year. Unlike pots made from cardboard or fiber, CowPots actually break down and fertilize your soil!
